Conservation, Expeditions, and Research

"Blue Ocean Sailing Expeditions" was founded by Mark Cronje as a result of being inspired by extended ocean passages and global sailing voyages—where prolonged exposure to the open sea revealed both the extraordinary resilience of marine ecosystems and their increasing vulnerability to human pressure. From these lived observations emerged a mission grounded in science, stewardship, and responsibility: to protect marine and terrestrial wildlife, safeguard the health of the world’s oceans, and advance environmental education across international communities.

Operating directly within the marine environment, we document ecological change, monitor emerging threats, and respond to wildlife in distress. Our work places particular emphasis on whale and dolphin conservation—species whose survival is increasingly imperiled by vessel traffic, entanglement, noise pollution, and habitat degradation. Where human activity intersects with fragile ecosystems, we act—collecting data, alerting authorities, supporting rescue efforts, and bearing witness when intervention is required.

As American environmental stewards working on a global stage, we hold that conservation is not a future ideal but a present responsibility. The ocean does not recognize borders, and neither can our commitment to its protection. Through science, seamanship, and service, we strive to ensure that the oceans—and the life they sustain—endure for generations yet to sail them.
